society-founder-dr-john-hitchman-1860

The show was founded in 1860 when a group of landowners and farmers led by Dr. John Hitchman, the first medical superintendent of the county asylum, agreed to form the Derbyshire Agricultural Show. There have been 139 shows since that time with breaks due to wartime restrictions, an outbreaks of foot and mouth disease in 1924 & 2001 and in 2020 & 2021 due to Covid-19.

2024 will see our 142nd Show with entertainment for all the family.  We are also expecting a wonderful turnout of cattle, sheep, horses, dogs, rural crafts and much more!

The show is run by a Council of 50 Members with the help of the Section Secretaries and other co-opted and honorary members.

The Society is proud to have as Patron of the Show, the Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire.

The team is completed by Chairman, Mr. Edward Hicklin a local farmer and Vice-Chairman, Mr. Martyn Clifton.  The officers are completed by Mrs Kerry Oxley the Treasurer and General Secretary Mrs Claire Bowman, who can be contacted on 07536182421 (phone or by E-mail – info@derbyshirecountyshow.org.uk).
